The Castle Danger area needed a wastewater collection and treatment alternative for an area along the North Shore from Crow Creek to Gooseberry Falls, including Gooseberry State Park. An innovative system would need to be designed to meet stringent zero-discharge standards into Lake Superior.

The treatment consists of stabilization ponds with an 80-acre drip irrigation discharge system that has resulted in a manageable wastewater system adjacent to Lake Superior.

Project details included:

  • Assisted the client in submitting grant applications and procuring grant dollars from the IRRRB and DTED to help fund this project

  • plans, specifications, and construction services were prepared by our staff for 25,000 feet of low-pressure sewer main that would be constructed in and around rock along with individual grinder pumps
